Garmin 57 is a great option if you don’t own a car with driver assistance features. It comes with a host of safety features such as forward collision warnings, driver departure warnings, and alerts when approaching stop lights and speed cameras. It will also notify you if you are too distracted to notice that traffic is moving.
Garmin 57 includes a parking guard, live view, and an automatic backup to the cloud that secures your recording in the cloud. You can record everything you need, thanks to voice controls, GPS, and 1440p video resolution.
The Garmin 57 can also connect to four additional cameras to cover other directions, just like all Garmin dash cams.
#2 VIOFO A129 Duo Dual Lens Dash Cam
If you’re after a dual dash cam, the Viofo is one of the best value choices around. It records great quality front and rear in good light and is well designed and isn’t too expensive.
While not the most feature-packed dash cam, the A129 has all the essentials including GPS, a G-sensor and parking mode. There’s Wi-Fi should you want to use the companion app and download videos to your phone, but it’s not necessary. To use it, you have to hold down the PiP button for five seconds, and it’s the same process to disable Wi-Fi.
What we really like is that the A129 Duo does the basics well and doesn’t add unnecessary features and frills. It also puts the same sensor and lens in both cameras, so you don’t have to compromise on the quality of the rear-facing video, which a lot of rivals do, and having the rear camera doesn’t reduce the quality of the front camera.
We’re also big fans of the design. Like Thinkware’s cameras, it hugs the windscreen instead of hanging down and getting in the way, but unlike Thinkware’s design Viofo has put a 2in screen on it so you don’t need to use the app to adjust the camera to the right angle.
#3 Garmin Dash Cam
This Garmin model packs high end features into a compact unit. With its GPS-enabled automatic accident detection, you can pinpoint the exact time and place of an accident. Voice controls, wireless smartphone syncing and collision warnings add to this cam’s value. It’s an all-around excellent dash cam that’s well worth the price tag.
#4 PAPAGO Dash Cam
PAPAGO’s camera is very impressive with its ultra HD video capabilities for crisp footage day or night. It records well even in adverse weather conditions and has a large memory that makes it ideal for long rides. Additional features like stop sign recognition and headlight reminder make it stand out from the rest. It’s an overall all-star in a compact design.
#5 Nextbase 622GW
The Nextbase 622GW is a great choice for those with a lot of money. It has all the features you would expect from a dash camera and more. Although the design won’t light the world on fire it offers unparalleled video quality and some of the most advanced features on the market.
The 622GW can record video at 4K/120fps. It also has built-in image stability to ensure smooth recordings. There is an extreme weather mode and a polarizing filter to minimize reflections that could otherwise ruin your film.
The car also has Alexa voice controls and enhanced night vision. There’s also a parking mode that detects collisions if you park up. And an emergency SOS that contacts first responders if the driver is unable. They can also track you down to three meters in the area of What3Words integration.
To see what’s happening behind you, the 622GW can also be connected to Nextbase’s $100 rear view camera. Even though this camera is quite expensive and doesn’t offer dual-channel recording by default, it may be a problem for those who are more budget conscious.
#6 Vantrue N2 Pro Uber Dual 1080P Dash Cam,
Vantrue N2 Pro is a great option if you want to avoid the hassle of two dashcam modules covering your front or rear. You can adjust the angle of the lens to fit your car’s interior.
While the overall footage may not be the best quality due to some graininess and lens flare, it will still provide clear, crisp videos to keep you updated on what’s going on on the roads. You will have to make it more difficult to access your videos because of the lack of wireless connectivity.
This dash cam is well worth looking at, as it includes all the essentials and a secondary camera.
#7 Kenwood – DRV-A601W 4K Dash Cam
The Kenwood DRV–A31W is a strong choice for car dash cams. It has a strong design and can record at 1080p resolution. It can detect collisions automatically and record footage for safekeeping. There is also a prominent display with a GPS on board to log your speed and location.
The Kenwood Dash Cam Manager is our favorite companion app. You can not only view your saved footage but you can also see what the camera sees live on your screen. Recorded video can also be of good quality, although the audio may sometimes be a little choppy.
It may not have any unique features to set it apart from its rivals, but the Kenwood DRV-A31W does have everything you need in a dash cam — and with an affordable price tag to boot.
